Things to Remember at a Tournament

To Bring:

Everyone is required to bring a pen, a highlighter, lunch/money, snacks, change for a phone call/mobile phone, a watch, and [girls] an extra pair of nylons. People in Radio are required to bring scissors, tape, a newspaper, a stopwatch, a pencil, a folder, and a newscast. People in Extemp are required to bring files, coloured pens, a legal pad, and a stop watch.

To Wear:

Speech Tournaments are professional events, so your clothing should reflect that. Dress like you're going to court.

To Do:

Be on the bus on time, participate in warm-ups, take some time to focus on your performance, highlight your room numbers on your schedual, legibly fill in your critique sheets, make sure you know where you're going, arrive to every round early, give your critique sheet to your judge, be respectful, and stay in the room for the entire round.

If you're double-entered...

Decide on which room you're going to go to first. When you've decided, go to the room you're going to go to second [before the round begins], and write your code number, what round you're in and DE on the board. When you arrive at your first room, tell the judge that you're double entered. Usually, the judge will ask if anyone is double entered at the beginning of the round. After you perform, ask to be excused.

Between Rounds...

Try to see other people's performances, eat lunch [quickly], talk to the coaches or your team-mates about how your round went.

At Awards...

The top six performers in each category will [usually] receive an award. We will sit together as a team, and clap after each name. We will stand and clap for each first place. When a Bartlett student wins a ribbon, our team will stand and clap. If any student from U46 wins a ribbon, we will stand and clap. Do not stand and clap for a Bartlett team award. When you win, walk up, get your award, shake the person's hand, and move to the side until all winners for the category are mentioned. Do not immediately go back to your seat because you will take attention away from the other winners.

On the bus ride home...

You will receive your critiques, and you will read through them all before returning them to your coach.
